Old MacDonald had a farm and Little Red Riding Hood

It's hard to believe we have finished another half term, even though it has been a slightly shorter half term, there has been lots of 'poorliness' going around, so everyone is ready for a rest and hopefully time to feel better.

In Maple we have continued to welcome new friends into the room.  The children are great at showing our new friends how and where we put activities away, where we wash our hand and how to make the sign of the cross when praying.

The children enjoyed setting up the farm in our topic corner, the tractors seem to be a particular hit  and have multiplied from one tractor to three!  All the children knew our nursery rhyme and we have had lots of fun thinking up different animals Old MacDonald could have.  Whilst we sing, the children have been choosing stick puppets of the animals to help them remember what sound each animal makes.

Due to the rainy weather on Old MacDonald's far, the animals have been getting very muddy.  The children have loved cleaning the animals with cloths, bubbles and toothbrushes.  We're not sure who was the muddiest and wettest by the end of the washing!   We have been matching the baby animals to their mummy.

In maths we have been working on prepositions.  we have been putting our farm animals on top of boxes, under the box, next to the box and in the box.  We have also been making different shapes in the space around us.  The children's favourite activity was playing the Jelly Bean game.  they had to use their listening ears to act out how each called out bean would move, ie:  jelly bean - wobble like a jelly, chilli bean - cold, rubbing arms together, runner bean - running around the room...

We finished our Baptism topic in RE.  We were talking about why is the church special, what day do we visit the church and who is special to us.

Elm children have been busy listening to the story - Little Red Riding Hood.  All the children knew this story and enjoyed acting the story out. We are all so proud of how well the children are doing with their phonics, everyone is joining in and the children are able to 'blend' a CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) word together, such as d-o-g says dog.

Elm children joined Holly class and Mr Williamson for their last PE session of the term.  Joining Mr Williamson, Mrs Park and Holly class is such a good experience for the children, it means when it is time to have transitions into Holly class, it will be a complete breeze for the children.

After half term Friday mornings will be Forest School.  Please send your Elm child in warm play clothes, complete with waterproof coat, trousers and wellington boots.

Have a fantastic half term and we will be open on Monday 24th February.
