Maple and Elm children have been very busy this week, we have been meeting with Holly Class to practise our Autumn Show songs. It has been brilliant watching the children over the last week, not only learn new songs but also learn actions for each song.
As well as singing practice, we have also had a steady stream of scarecrows appearing daily. The children are so proud of them, we hope you enjoyed the family time together making them together. They look amazing, dotted around the eco garden. When the children have had playtime, they have immediately made a beeline to the scarecrows as have the rest of the school.
As well as practising songs, actions and scarecrow watching, the children were also very busy making bread rolls to accompany Holly Classes carrot and coriander soup. The children were amazed to see how much their rolls doubled and tripled in size when left to rise. The gorgeous smell coming from the kitchen as they were cooking wafted throughout the whole school, with a lot of staff and children sniffing the air wanting to know if there would be any 'spares' to sample.
On the actual day of our show, we performed to Oak class in the morning and we thought the children wouldn't be able to top their morning performance, but they did. We are so proud of all the children, it can be quite daunting performing in front of your grown ups and not being able to nip over for a quick cuddle, but all the children were true professionals and sang and acted their hearts out, very proud to see their loved ones in the audience. We hope you enjoyed the scarecrow trail, we had great feed back from our bread rolls and soup, with some children on Thursday telling us how much they enjoyed them.
As well as practising for our Autumn Show we have also been learning all about scarecrows this week. We read the story The Scarecrow and watched a different version on the Interactive Whiteboard. The children were very quick to notice the differences and any similarities between the two stories. We also learnt the history of scarecrows and why farmers use them.
In PE Maple and Elm were practising different scarecrow dances and stretching to Cosmic Kids yoga. The children are now at the stage, they know the names of some of the poses.
In maths were are continuing to practise our number recognition and have been focussing on clapping the correct amount of times to match the syllables in each others names. Elm class are getting very good at telling us if the number of children present is 'more, less or the same' as the day before and Maple children are able to find the corresponding amount of 'fingers' to match the amount of children present.
In between bouts of rain, we have made sure the children access the outside as much as possible, it is lovely to see the children who have been with us for a while including our new friends in their games. They have made sure no one is ever left on their own, without an adult reminding them. Our new friends already feel part of our group and it is great to see the children laying along side each other.
The children all love to change their books daily, please make sure the book bags are returned frequently as the children do become upset if they can't change their books. We have been asking them to remind their grown ups as we know everyone has a lot to remember.
