Following in the footsteps of Jesus, together we love live and learn.

W/C: 2nd December

The weeks seem to be whizzing by and the children are getting more excited the closer we get to Christmas. They have worked very hard on their Nativity show this week and we can't wait for you to see it on Wednesday! We are still awaiting a few costume contributions and need these in on Monday please. These are a black top and leggings/tights for children who are stars and a white top and leggings/tights for children who are angels. It doesn't matter if there is a small motif on the front of the top provided as children will be wearing tabards over the top. If you are having difficulties sourcing these items, please speak with me on Monday morning so that I can try and help you. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

We have been learning about Advent this week and what it means to us. Children have learnt about the Advent wreath and what the different coloured candles represent. This week, we lit the first candle for 'hope' and thought about what we hope for. This links to their home learning this week and I am looking forward to seeing what else they are hoping for.

We haven't learnt any new sounds in phonics this week, although we have been learning about words ending in the letter 's' and how sometimes this makes a /s/ sound, as in 'bats', but sometimes it can make a /z/ sound as in 'dogs'. Next week will be our assessment week, which will be a good opportunity for us to see what the children can remember and what we might need to go over again. We have learnt three new tricky words this week; we, me and be.

Our book of the week has been 'One Snowy Night' with Percy the Park Keeper. The children have really enjoyed this and have had fun making lots of snowy-themed creations themselves in the craft area. They also had a great time decorating our Christmas tree on Monday and I think they have done a really great job!

We are joined by the younger children in Elm every Monday and Tuesday afternoon and it is so lovely to see the children in Holly Class show them around and help them play. I am excited to see how this continues to develop into the new year and beyond.
