To commemorate Remembrance Day, the children created some beautiful poppy artwork by printing with potatoes to make the flowers and painting with forks to create the grass. They all sat very quietly and respectfully during our special remembrance assembly in the afternoon with Mrs Langford. Well done Holly Class! 👏
We were joined by older children in Oak class on Monday as they wanted to share their Paddington Bear stories with us that they had written themselves. The children loved this and found some of the stories very funny!
This week, the whole school have shared a mini-topic called ‘Local Area Week’, which we do every year. This is an opportunity for us to learn a little bit more about the local area around us and for Holly Class, our focus was, ‘Malvern Town’. We talked about where we live, what makes a town a town and then drew pictures of what we know about Malvern town already. We then looked at different photographs taken around Malvern town, in which the children had to try and guess what they were and talk about any experiences they had of this. A firm favourite seemed to be the cafes! 😁 It was also a really nice opportunity to share some of the photos children had on their Tapestry profiles that had been taken by parents whilst they were out and about at different places in Malvern, such as the Priory and The Morgan factory.
Aside from this, we have been celebrating Rainbow Bear’s birthday! The children were so excited about this and made lots of cards and pictures for Rainbow Bear to celebrate her turning 5. We invited Elm class in to decorate cupcakes, which we ate together in the afternoon, before playing some musical party games. We had lots of fun!
Our book of the week has been ‘Don’t Wake the Bear Hare’, which is a lovely story about some woodland animals planning a party whilst trying not to wake the hibernating bear. We talked about what ‘hibernating’ means and some of the animals that do this. The story also helped to reinforce our two ‘Words of the Week’, ‘quiet’ and ‘loud’.
In maths, we have been learning more about numbers 4 and 5 and how these numbers can be made in different ways. We have also played some games using positional language, such as under, over, inside, next to, on top etc.
