Following in the footsteps of Jesus, together we love live and learn.

W/C: 30th September

A huge thank you for all of the fabulous scarecrows that you helped your children to make for our scarecrow trail last week! They looked amazing and the children were very proud to share theirs with each other. We hope you enjoyed our Autumn Show and scarecrow trail as much as we did. All of the staff in EYFS agreed that the children performed brilliantly, with confidence and gusto!

Aside from lots of singing practice about scarecrows and combine harvesters, we have been enjoying the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children have been building homes for the pigs in the construction corner, acting out the story using puppets and created cosy homes from junk modelling on Friday.

In  maths, we have been exploring measure, which has included mass, capacity and size.  Children have been encouraged to use the language - heavy/light, full/empty and big/small.  It would be great if you could continue to encourage this at home during play and everyday activities.  We have also started to explore pattern and how this means that something is repeated over and over again.  Their home learning is linked to pattern this week and we will continue to explore pattern in school this week too.

In phonics, we have been learning the new sounds, g,o,c and k.  You should find a guide to all of the sounds we have been learning/are going to learn this term in your child's home learning book this week.  In this guide, it tells you how to pronounce each sound correctly and also the little phrase we teach children to help them to remember the correct letter formation.  I have also attached a copy of this guide to this memo, as well for your convenience.  We have also started to learn 'tricky words'.  These are words which cannot completely be sounded out phonetically & therefore need to be learnt by sight.  There is a tricky word guide attached to this memo for more information.  This tricky word we have learnt this week has been 'is'.  Tricky word cards will be sent home in phonics zipper wallets and will be in red text to differentiate them from the phonics sounds.

In R.E. we have been seeing what the children can remember about the Bible story of Creation.  We have also been thinking about Harvest and what we can be thankful for.  Children had some lovely ideas, such as being thankful for their bones, their friends, their families and talents they have such as dancing and football.
