The children have settled quickly back into school and it has been great listening to them talk about their half term break and all of the fun they got up to . We have started our new topic for this half term, which is 'Celebrations'. Already, we have explored Bonfire Night and will be learning about birthdays next week. Our book of the week has been 'Harvest Days', which explores different Harvest festival traditions from all around the world. We have enjoyed pretending to fly in our aeroplane from one country to the next.
In maths we have been learning about triangles and circles; how to identify them, name them, make them and describe them. We loved going on a shape hunt around the school - please see my separate post about this to see more about this.
In phonics, we have learnt the new sound 'j' as in jellyfish. We have also learnt some alternative graphemes (letters) for some sounds we have previously learnt: /ss/ as in dress, /ll/ as in bell and /ff/ as in huff. We have talked about how they are found usually as the end of words, although can sometimes be found in the middle too. We are learning more tricky words each week now and have learnt 4 this week! They are ; put, pull, full and as. You will receive flashcards for these tricky words next week in bookbags.
In R.E. we have begun our new unit of learning which is all about 'People Who Care for Us'. This week we talked about our families and how they show us that they care. We also had our first Mass in church on Friday morning and the children all behaved beautifully and listened well to Father Naz. Our new value and virtue for this half term is 'Intentional and Prophetic'. Mrs Langford talked to the children about this on Monday and explained how she'd like us all to think about how we can intentionally help others and show them an act of kindness in some way.
Holly Class's first Forest School session went really well and the children loved exploring this new space and all it has to offer with Mr Williamson. Please remember that children do not need to wear their school uniform for school on Fridays this half term and should be dressed accordingly for Forest School as stated in our previous 'Forest School' letter.
