Following in the footsteps of Jesus, together we love live and learn.

W/C: 14th October

This week we have been reading 'We Are Welcome' by Alexandra Penfold.  The story sends a clear message about how we are all different, special and all very welcome in school.  We also started thinking about the word 'welcome', what this means and how we can make others feel welcome at school and at home.

Thank you for all of your plastic bottle donations - the children have done a great job in turning them into special poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day this year.   We have touched based briefly about what this means, but will learn about this in more detail (in an age-appropriate way) nearer the time.

In maths, we have been learning about numbers 1,2 and 3.  The Early Years Framework states that children should have a deep understanding of numbers 1-10 by the end of Reception, which means more than just being able to count to ten and identifying the numerals.  Our learning about numbers 1-3 will explore how these numbers can be recognised in different ways, how they can be matched to quantities, how we can find one more/one less and how they can be composed (i.e. 2+1 = 3, 1+2 = 3, 0+3=3, 1+1+1 = 3) .  Children will also learn how to subitise small amounts.  This means they can quickly say how many they see without needing to count.  We will be continuing our learning of numbers 1-3 next week.

In R.E. children have been consolidating their knowledge and understanding of the story of creation.  They did this by acting out the story together, using props, showing all of the different things God created.  They did a super job with this, so well done Holly Class!

In phonics, children have learnt the new sounds, h,b,f and l.  They have also learnt the tricky word 'the'.  Please practice these at home with your child to help consolidate their learning in school. We won't be learning any new sounds next week as we will be assessing what the children can remember and revising and consolidating sounds that have been previously taught.

Last week next week!  I'm sure the children are all ready for their half term break.  They have worked very hard and Mrs Park and I are really proud of the way they have all settled into school life so well.
