Well another busy week for Maple and Elm.
We have decided from now on we will continue our nursery rhymes for two weeks as the children are enjoying immersing themselves fully in the rhymes. Both rooms have the same rhyme, so when Elm and Maple join together in the afternoon the children can discuss the rhyme together and continue in their free play relating to the rhyme. Our nursery rhyme for the next two weeks is the classic; Baa baa black sheep.
In Maple, we didn't need to introduce the rhyme, the children saw it on the wall and instantly started singing it. The children have loved using the stick puppets as we sing and we have begun to add some of our signs that we do in class every day.
Maple children have continued to welcome new friends into the room, we have such considerate children, not only are they talking and playing with our new friends to make them feel welcome, if there is ever anyone who becomes a little sad, the children find a cuddly toy and take it over to them to act as a comfort. What lovely children we have!
The children loved washing the mud off the farm animals they asked specifically if they could make the sheep muddy too.
As the weather was dry on Wednesday instead of joining forces with Elm for PE, all of us; Maple, Elm and Holly went out into the outdoor classroom together and so much fun was had! it was so lovely to see our big 5 years helping our diddy 2 years to carry watering cans full of water to water our beautiful daffodils. Luckily as the weather continued to improve and warm up daily, we have been able to go in the outdoor classroom for the rest of the week too. Our young ones have been making some great recipes in the mud kitchen and have loved climbing on the obstacle course.
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day. Everyone either brought their favourite book in or dressed up as their favourite character. Everyone sat down looking at each others books and talking to each other about their stories.
Elm class, continuing with their new topic, 'On the Farm', read a great story called 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson. The children enjoyed joining in with the animal noises and hearing about the cheeky thieves' plan to steal the prize cow! Elm children practised their hand eye control and continued to strengthen their fingers by hole punching their ladybird shapes so they could thread the legs through.
On Friday Elm class joined Holly class to go to Forest School, it was quite as muddy as last week, but just as much fun was had! Whilst Elm and Holly were at Forest School, Maple class went down to Holly room to explore, use their whiteboard and enjoy playing with different toys, their role play area and tuff spot. Maple finished off their morning by playing in the outdoor classroom.
The weather is supposed to be staying bright and warm for the weekend so hopefully everyone can have a lovely time.
