Dare I say that spring seems to have finally sprung....?! Either way, the children have been making the most of the sunshine and milder weather this week with lots of learning and fun outdoors Forest School was a slightly less muddy affair this week, although it sounds like they had just as much fun with Mr Williamson.
The children behaved impeccably during our Ash Wednesday mass at church this week. They did really well to keep their ash crosses on their foreheads, given by Father Naz, for most of the day afterwards. He told us that these crosses are to remind us to try and be even better people as we go into Lent. This is what we have been thinking about in Holly Class this week and we shared our ideas together about how we can help to make peace during Lent. Children had some really lovely ideas (which you will see in the pictures) and we pooled these together to create a collective prayer about peace.
We have worked hard in maths this week to continue learning about adding/combining two groups together and finding the total. Children are getting more confident in using a ten frame and counters to help them do this, which is a very useful skill.
In phonics, we have been practicing reading and spelling words with double letter digraphs (e.g. bb, gg, tt etc). They are remembering to 'chunk it up' if they are trying to read or spell a longer word, rather than just trying to do it all in one go. No new tricky words have been introduced as we are focussing on the previous ones that have already been taught.
We have enjoyed two special days this week; Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) and World Books Day! On Pancake Day, children enjoyed doing lots of pancake-related crafts and activities, as well as eating pancakes for snack (which many said they'd like to have every day)! Thank you for all of the effort that went into the super costumes for World Book Day. Unfortunately I missed out on this fun as had to go to 'grown-up school', but Mrs Park and Mrs Langford said that all of the children looked fantastic!
In PSHE this week, we talked about where our rubbish goes and explored recycling - what this means and what types of things can be recycled
at school. Hopefully children can help to do their little bit to help with this at home too.
We are really looking forward to our trip to Malvern Theatre on Wednesday to see the new Paddington Bear film. Thank you for all of the consent forms that have been returned. We are not allowed to take any child without this, so it is vital that any outstanding consent forms are returned by Monday at the latest please. Children will need to wear their school uniforms as usual on this day please.
I hope you all your spring walks for home learning this week - luckily it has been the perfect weekend for it so far.
