Didn't they do well?!!! Well done to all of the children in Holly Class for being such superstars on Sports Day! They all took part, tried their best and behaved beautifully. It was really lovely seeing so many family members there too - thank you for you support, I hope you enjoyed it too. Mr Williamson said that they had a great time at Friday's KS1 & 2 Sports Day too and they weather was kind to us again.
We have enjoyed reading 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' this week, which is all about a plastic bag (Stanley), that ends up in the ocean and unfortunately causes problems for the ocean creatures that live there. Thankfully, Stanley ends up being rescued out of a turtle's mouth by a kind boy and gets turned into a kite -hooray! This led onto discussions about plastic waste in the ocean and the little things we can try to do to help: reuse and recycle and not buying disposable plastic in the first place. We related this to how great it is that the children all bring in a reusable water bottle for school each day, rather than one that would just be thrown away.
We've been doing lots of practice in phonics about words that end in 'ed' that can make several different sounds: id, t and d. It's quite a tricky one to try and remember and depends on the word as to which sound is made by 'ed' at the end of it. It would be good to have a little practice reading some of these words at home: jumped (t), shifted (id), melted (ed), crowned (d).
In maths, we have been learning about taking away, focussing on numbers to 10. We will continue with this next week.
In PSHE, we explored what 'personal' space is and how we can protect it for ourselves and others. To help demonstrate this in a practical way, children walked around holding hula hoops around their waists!
In R.E. we discussed how we make new friends and related this to how Jesus made new friends too. Children had some really lovely ideas about why people would want to be friends with Jesus. Here are a few examples:
- He can make people better when they are sick.
- He is kind to everyone in the whole, wide world.
- He is the son of God.
- He came alive forever.
- He is the Holy Spirit.
I was really impressed with their thoughtful and mature responses - well done Holly Class!
I can't believe that we are heading into our last two weeks of the academic year! There is still plenty of time for more fun yet and our pom pom jar is getting fuller by the day.......
