It's been great to welcome the children back into school after the half term break, I hope that they all enjoyed their week away from school and had lots of family fun. We have started the new half term with our brand new topic, 'Seaside Fun' and there seemed no better way to start this other than to be pirates! We have a new pirate-themed role play area, where the children have enjoyed dressing up and sailing the seven seas. We have also had lots of fun making telescopes and treasure maps and playing games to collect treasure. Our book of the week has been Pirates Love Underpants! The children did some super writing about where they thought the Pants of Gold might be hidden to help one of the pirates from the book. They also enjoyed decorating pants in very colourful patterns!
In maths, we have been exploring numbers greater than 10, including how these numerals look and how they can be composed when starting with a 'ten'. For example, 12 can be made with 10 and 2 more, 17 can be made with 10 and 7 more etc. We will continue building on this next week and will begin to explore number patterns too.
We have had a review week in phonics, which is a good opportunity for the children to go over some of our previous learning and for me to assess what they have retained and identify any sounds that they may need a little more practice with.
In R.E. we have started learning about Pentecost and talked about how Jesus' friends must have felt really worried when they thought that Jesus was gone forever. We related this to our own feelings and some of the children talked about their own worries too.
Hopefully you you have all read the letter sent out a couple of days ago about being able to download your child's Tapestry learning journal from Wednesday 11th June. Please ensure that this is done before Thursday 10th July, as they will be unavailable after this date. Please speak with myself or Mrs Wilkinson in the school office if you have any further queries about this.
Finally, our Early Years Hub Sports Day will be held (weather permitting) on Wednesday 2nd July. More details in a letter will follow very shortly.
Have a great weekend - hopefully it won't be raining for the entire time!
