This week, we have enjoyed reading the story, The Pig in the Pond. The children found it very funny when the farmer jumped into the pond with the pig to cool down at the! We had a go at creating some artwork using wax crayons and watered down blue paint to make pictures of the farm animals jumping into the pond to cool down out of the hot sun. We also created pig faces using pink tissue paper to make a collage. Lots of the children also had a go at creating sheep by printing with corks and white paint to make the fleece. It's been a very crafty week all in all in Holly Class!
We have also been learning about Holy Week in R.E. and children learnt about the Last Supper by hearing the story and then acting it out themselves. Mr Williamson has been teaching the children about Good Friday and how this is the sad day when we remember that Jesus died on a cross and how he did this because he loved us so much.
In maths, we have been practising our number bonds to 5 using lots of different practical maths equipment, as well as beginning to use more formal number sentences too. Their home learning this week will give children an opportunity to consolidate this learning with you.
In phonics, we have been learning how to read and write words that end in 's' to make a plural, but also when the 's' makes a /z/ sound, like in 'runs'. We have also learnt about words that end in 'ing', like 'chatting'. Again, no new tricky words as this half term focusses on practicing the ones we have learnt already.
Enjoy the beautiful sunshine and wishing all of the mummies a very Happy Mother's Day.
