We’ve had a busy week in Holly Class and experienced our first trip out together, which was so much fun. Once again, a big well done to all of the children for behaving so well, I hope they all enjoyed themselves too.
We have enjoyed reading Julia Donaldson’s ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ this week, during which the children gave some good suggestions about how to help the little old lady’s home feel bigger. This story has lots of repetition, so it was lovely to hear many of the children joining in with the words as I read it.
In maths, we have been learning about ‘short’ and ‘long’. We collected sticks and sorted them into groups of ‘short’ and ‘long’ and then the children cleverly suggested that we need a ‘medium’ group as well!
We have continued to focus on Lent in R.E. This week, we explored how our actions can affect other people. After a little puppet role play, we talked about real-life scenarios such as wanting the same toy or children not being included at playtimes. The children had to think about choices that could be made and how that would make other people feel. They had some really kind and thoughtful suggestions , showing that they all know how to be a very kind friend.
In PSHE, we talked about money - what it is, where is comes from, how we use it and how sadly, it does not grow on trees! 😁
We are continuing our daily phonics lessons, but we are focussing on reading and writing longer words using the sounds that have already been taught. No new tricky words have been introduced this week and we are continuing to revise ones in our existing collection.
Have a great weekend and we’ll see you again on Monday.
