What a lovely week we’ve had and it’s such a joy to see how much progress all of the children have made as we move into ur second term together. We are really enjoying our ‘Space’ topic and the space station role play area is still proving to be a popular place to be!
This week we have been reading ‘The Marvellous Moon Map’ which is about a very determined mouse who went on a quest to find the moon all by himself, armed only with a moon map he had made. He soon discovered that sometimes things are much easier with a friend by your side and eventually agreed to let his good friend, Bear help. The children were quite taken with the beautiful illustrations in this book and there was so much around the actual story that we could talk about. We stopped reading at a bit of a cliffhanger on Monday, to think about what Mouse might see coming out of the dark woods……. Children then drew and wrote their ideas about this in Drawing Club. They are working hard to apply their phonics as they write, as well as rememberingfinger spaces between words.
In maths we have been exploring how to represent quantities in different ways; sounds, actions, using objects and drawing a picture. We have also been exploring ‘one more’ as the aliens travel around in their spaceship looking for a new planet to live on.
In phonics, we have been learning some new sounds (very exciting with the children)! Last week and this week we have learnt the following sounds: ai, ee igh, oa, oo (moon), oo (book), ar and or. The new tricky words we have learnt are; was, you, they. All of these phonics and sound cards should be in their little zipper bags for you to practice with at home.
There is no home learning activity set in books this week, instead, please can children have a go at showing us a skill they can do outside of school. This can be anything - roller skating, riding a bike, gymnastics, dancing, football, drawing etc….. Please send a photo or video of them doing this on Dojo by either uploading it to their profile or by sending me a message. Any queries or difficulties with this, please just let me know.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Bye for now ☺️
