Early Years Hub - Maple, Elm & Holly

Welcome to our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Hub

A very warm welcome to our page. We have three classes Maple, Elm and Holly. All three classes often work and play together as a hub, and have a shared outdoor play area.  By joining together, we aim to make this the best possible start to a love of life-long learning. It is a privilege to be sharing your child's first stepping stone into education. Our EYFS team leader is Mrs Wilford who is also a class teacher to Holly Class.

Spring 2

This half term, children in Maple and Elm will be learning the nursery rhymes Baa Baa Black Sheep, Hey Diddle Diddle and Incy Wincy Spider.  For Maple class, lots of their learning through play and playful activities will be based around these classic rhymes to help children to become really familiar with the themes and characters, such as creating crazy coloured sheep, balancing like Incy Wincy and talking about their own pets and pets they'd like to have.  Holly Class and Elm Class will become 'World Explorers' as they discover the magic and excitement of faraway places through a range of carefully chosen texts.  They will learn about hot, dry deserts, spicy Indian markets, exotic fruits in Africa and furry friends 'down under'.  Why not visit our travel agent role play area to book your next getaway?  

Spring 1...

5,4,3,2,1......Blast off!!!  This half term, Holly and Elm are venturing to new heights and learning all about space.  Through a range of carefully chosen, exciting books, we will be going on lots of adventures to explore both the factual and fictional side to space.  From learning about our moon and the planets in our solar system, to looking out for the aliens taking our underpants - our main endeavour will be to have have fun and reach for the stars with our learning!  For our younger children in Maple, their learning will be within a 'winter' theme as they explore snow and ice and all things that are a  bit chilly!  They will be learning lots more nursery rhymes, including Down at the Station, Humpty Dumpty  and Miss Polly had a Dolly.  All of our children within the Hub will be learning about Baptism and how this is a special time when we are welcomed into God's family. 

Autumn....

This half term, our main focus will be to settle all of our children into their new classes and help them to get to know their environment, the adults and each other.  We will also be helping children to become familiar with their new routines and the and boundaries that we have in school.   In addition to this, Maple and Elm will begin their nursery rhyme journey with Jack and Jill, Wind the Bobbin, Pat-a-Cake and Hickory Dickory Dock.  They will do lots of fun activities and crafts related to these and become really familiar with these classic rhymes.  Holly and Elm will explore their topic, 'Families' through stories, arts and crafts and lots of talk about their own families too.  They will be learning about how families can be different in many ways, yet all are important and very special indeed.
