Welcome to Beech Class- Year 5/6
To begin the Spring term, we have been learning about WW1! We have re-enacted the main causes of WW1, with the children representing different countries, before delving deeper into what life was like in the trenches and the role in which propaganda played!
We have also been reading 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty and delving into the life of Jim, who has recently been orphaned and sent to the workhouse! We have followed Jim's journey and have built up to writing our very own historical narrative in which Jim escaped the workhouse!
This half term, we have been reading 'Cogheart' by Peter Bunzl and exploring the world of Lily and her Mechanimals! We began our learning by creating our own Cogheart inspired keys before working towards writing our own narratives!
In our Topic learning, we have been learning all about Rivers: We have focused on the features or a River, their impacts upon the local community and the Water Cycle!
Welcome to Beech Class! We are very excited about the year ahead and we are very much looking forward to working with you all!
Our first Topic of the year focuses on History and the Topic of 'The Victorians'! We will be learning about the key events of the Victorian times, the reign of Queen Victoria, what life was like for the different classes in Victorian Britain and we will look at the advances made in medicine.
To begin the year, we looked into what Victorian children would have played with and how it differs from the toys that we have today. We created our very own Victorian Dolls, using Dolly pegs, pipe cleaners and a range of materials!
