Following in the footsteps of Jesus, together we love live and learn.

23rd February 2026

Maple and Elm’s weekly round up.

It has been lovely welcoming all of the children back into the Hub after the half term break.  It's hard to believe that we are now halfway through the school year!

The warmer (and sometimes drier) weather has resulted in many of the children flocking outdoors during 'Choosing Time' , which provides endless opportunities for children to not only learn and play together, but also to explore, be curious and take risks within their learning and development.  Worm-hunting has been a firm favourite amongst many of the children and it has been fantastic hearing the different language they have used to describe and compare them.  E.g.  'This worm is longer/shorter/fatter/thinner.  How many worms have you found?  This one is very wriggly!'

Children have loved being more and more daring on the wooden trial equipment and the older children in Holly Class have been teaching some of the younger children in Elm how to climb and even hang upside down!

Indoors, the learning and fun continues and Holly and Elm have kicked off their new topic, 'World Explorers'.  Their book of the week was 'Meerkat Mail', where they were introduced to a rather fed up meerkat called Sunny, who was trying to escape his busy and crowded home in the Sahara desert and find  his 'perfect home'.   Children have loved hearing about his travels throughout the story and discussed places they thought would be perfect for Sunny to live.  Many thought somewhere cold, like the Artic might be good as it would help to cool him down!

In Maple, children have been basing their learning around the classic nursery rhyme, Baa Baa Black Sheep.  It is always wonderful to hear how well children learn to remember and recite the nursery rhymes they are learning and it really plays an important part in their language development.

It is World Book Day this Thursday!  Children are welcome to dress up as their favourite book character or they may come to school dressed in comfy clothes to read in.  We know it's going to be lots of fun!

This Friday, children in Holly and Elm will be re-starting Forest School with Mr Williamson, so please can they come dressed accordingly.

Happy March, let's hope it's start to drier weather!
