St Joseph's Catholic

Primary School

Following in the footsteps of Jesus, together we love live and learn.

20th October 2025

Well, that’s the end of the first term of the year.  It has been a long one and the children are very tired, but they have been amazing.  They have worked so hard and our ‘seasoned’ children welcomed our new friends with open arms, showing them the ropes and looking after them.  New friendships have been made, Elm children have made a great start as our pre-schoolers.

Elm continued reading Owl Babies, they have been busy creating owl pictures with lots of feathers and have made counting sticks with sequins.  All the children in Elm suddenly seem taller and more grown up.

Maple children were introduced to their new nursery rhyme, Hickory Dickory Dock.  The children have made mice pictures ready for our display and continued recognising the difference between big, bigger, small, smaller.

Maple and Elm children joined together for PE, they started with two scarves practising their ‘Squiggle’ movements  backwards and forwards.  They learnt about the importance of warming up our bodies and how to cool it down again.

We have gathered Autumn floor findings and turned them  into Autumn collages.  When we had a windy afternoon, the children decided they wanted to fly their paper aeroplanes outside and to see if the wind would make their planes fly even further.  They had a fantastic time and the shrieks of delights when the wind caught their aeroplanes were lovely to hear.

Monday afternoon everyone went into Holly class for the afternoon to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of light.  The children watched ‘My First Diwali’ on CBeebies, they learnt a Hindu celebration dance and took part in lots of Diwali craft activities including make a diva lamp which is a clay candle holder decorated with sequins.  The children had a wonderful time and were still talking about all the fun they had the following day.

Elm children are very excited about going to Forest School with Holly class and Mr Williamson on a Friday morning.  They will also be having their lunch on specific days in the hall with Holly children.  A staff member from the nursery will stay with them to ensure they can open their lunch boxes, food wrappers and to remind them to eat their ‘treats’ after their main lunch!  And finally,  Elm children will also be spending an afternoon or two with Mrs Wilford and her children in Holly class.  Again, they will be accompanied with a staff member from the nursery.  This is the beginning of a very exciting journey for elm children and they already seem very excited about their new adventures.

Have a lovely, hopefully restful half term and we will see you all at the beginning of term on Monday 3rd November.
