Following in the footsteps of Jesus, together we love live and learn.

1st December 2025

Maple and Elm’s weekly round up.

Our week started with finding an envelope addressed to the Maple and Elm children.  After opening it we found out we had a little mischievous elf called Ernie somewhere in maple room. He’s told us he likes to hide in different places each day for us to find him and that he has a very important job to do for Santa.  He is going to be watching to make sure the children all make the right decisions and are kind to each other.  He then has to feed back to Santa.  It was one of our youngest Maple girls that found Ernie, hanging from the display board right above our heads!

The Christmas fun continued with both Maple and Elm room having their own Advent calendar.  The child who opens the Advent calendar for that day will have their ‘present’ put in their bags ready to bring home.

We are well and truly in the midst of practising our Nativity now, we are even hearing Baa baa boogie coming from the toilets!  We are looking forward to seeing lots of you at one of our two performances.  Thank you to the parents who are bringing their children in especially for the performance.  If your child doesn’t normally attend Nursery on a Wednesday but you have said you will bring your children in, please drop them off at our usual entrance by 8.50am, that will give us time to make sure everyone has been to the toilet and everyone in their costumes.  Children that are being dropped off don’t need to bring anything with them.  If parents can keep their child’s coat with them as well please.  Our performances are 9.30am and 1.30pm.  Parents please make your way to the office to sign in prior to the performance.  Thank you

Elm children read the book Elmer and Wilbur, Elmer is a colourful cheeky patchwork elephant and Wilbur is his cousin, he’s black and white and also a ventriloquist, which makes all the other elephants in the jungle laugh out loud. The children had to rescue jungle animals from trays of jelly (without eating the jelly!) The children were also challenged to find hidden pictures in the sand to match the Little Wandle sound picture cards.

In maths the children were comparing groups of more or less.

In both rooms we have our Advent wreaths displayed and have been lighting the first purple calendar each day as a sign the count down has started to Jesus’ birth.  The children are loving watching the flame flicker and are keen to find out what each candle signifies.

Maple children had their final week of The Grand Old Duke of York.  They have been finding different parts of the nursery rhyme hidden in the rice and love their new mark making table.  It’s bigger and they now have shelves with different papers, scissors, glue, hole punches and their favourites- Christmas stamps.  The table is always full and it’s lovely to see the children adding meaning to their marks.

In maths the children continued with their pattern making, seeing if they could make their own patterns out of construction and follow ones we made for them.

Both rooms have been very busy making Christmas cards and calendars.

On Friday Maple children joined Elm and Holly children at Forest School.  They absolutely loved their time up in the forest but couldn’t quite get their heads around warm squash!!
