17th November 2025

Maple and Elm’s weekly round up.

What a busy and exciting week this week.  The children were very excited to see snow on the top of the hills and all the frosty ground, some even saw the small fluttering of snowflakes, a lovely reminder that Christmas isn’t far away.

Nativity rehearsals are underway and children are really enjoying the singing and actions so far.  As a school, we will be providing the costumes for the show, but may ask  you to help help with specific under layers.  This usually involves black/white vest/t-shirt and black/white leggings or tights.  More information will come out about this as soon as possible.

Maple continued singing The wheels on the bus, they have made some wonderful moving vehicles out of construction, raced cars across the floor and down ramps and learnt how to do wax rubbings/relief rubbings over vehicle templates.

In maths we have been introducing repeating patterns and we started with repeated phrases in books and rhymes.  The first book we read, which is definitely Maple’s favourite this year is Shark in the park, the children already knew the repeated phrases and loved shouting it out.  When we were singing nursery rhymes we started lapping the repeated rhythm, the children noticed the rhythm the most with The grand old Duke of York.

Elm class have been reading the lovely and thought-provoking story, 'Mixed', which is all about the colours red , blue and yellow who sadly fall out because of their differences.  Fortunately, they learn that it's much better to be friends and live together peacefully and they then decide to create lots of new colours.

Elm class were involved in lots of colour mixing activities-paint, shaving foam, patterns with peg board rainbows.  The children were introduced to the sound ‘t’ this week.

In maths the children were subitising, the ability to instantly recognise the number of objects from 1-5.  Children are born with this ability.

In RE we have been looking at God our Father the creator.  We have been looking at which adults in school help us, who helps us on church and how to be kind to people and saying sorry if we hurt someone.

Elm children had a fantastic time at Forest School on Friday with Mr Williamson and Holly class, they found ice on the pond and went sledging!! I think the only ones to feel the cold were the grown ups!  They finished their session with a hot chocolate and a marshmallow-yum.

Fingers crossed to a not so chilly week next week
