St Joseph's Catholic

Primary School

Following in the footsteps of Jesus, together we love live and learn.

SMVSC

What is SMVSC?

SMVSC stands for spiritual, moral, vocational, social and cultural development. Here at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary we believe that it is the embodiment of our Mission Statement where we are a caring community growing in love, knowledge and understanding.

Spiritual

Here we explore different beliefs and grow a respect for different faiths, feelings and values. We foster an enjoyment about learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world. We assist the children in using their imagination and creativity and being able to reflect upon their own learning and how to improve or make better next time.

Moral

At St Joseph’s School we teach the children to recognise right and wrong; to respect the law and understand consequences of wrong choices. We allow the children to investigate moral and ethical issues and help them to offer reasoned views.

Vocational

We are proud to be part of the Catholic faith and so we have added a vocational aspect to SMSC. Here we focus on how the children can live out the Gospel Values of Jesus in their own life. We ask the children to reflect upon the choices they make and the implications that they may have upon themselves and others. We allow the children to reflect upon all of us being made in the image and likeness of God and that we are all God’s people.

Social

Here we help the children to understand how to live together. We appreciate different views as we investigate and discuss moral issues. We  take part in different charity events where the children participate, volunteer and cooperate with each other to reach a particular goal. We engage with the children and allow them to learn the fundamental values of British democracy through the election of the school council and planned visits to the Worcester courts.

Cultural

The cultural aspect allows us to celebrate being part of a worldwide family both in school and in a wider local, national and international aspect. We learn to appreciate different cultural influences and we respect and celebrate cultural diversity. This is developed further through our Global link with Changa Primary School in Tanzania.
