Welcome to Year 1’s class page.
Happy New Year!
We have been having lots of fun exploring and learning in year 1.
The Spring term starts with our ‘Moon Zoom’ topic, followed by ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ where our focus will be about London.
Please see our curriculum newsletter for more information about our learning this term.
This term sees Safer Internet Day 2018 on Tuesday 6th February. We have already started thinking about ways of staying safe on-line, including not posting personal information and what to do if we see anything that upsets us or that we are worried about. We watched episode 1 of Hector’s World to support our learning. https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/5_7/hectorsworld/Episode1/
We are continuing to use concrete apparatus to support our learning.
Exploring natural materials
We acted the parable of the Good Samaritan and discussed what we can learn from it.
Some of our home learning so far this term.
We worked together to sequence ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ by Micheal Rosen. We had lots of fun performing this poem before we made up our own versions.
Who or what made these footprints?
The children had a great time discussing who made these footprints which appeared outside our classroom one morning.
How many different ways can you put 20 spots on two mushrooms?
Using games to support our learning.
Exploring different ways of making 10 using Numicon.
We acted out parts of the Mass, thinking about why Mass is important to Christians. Father Pat also came in to talk to us about celebrations.
Carnivore or herbivore?
It is expected that the children read daily at home. Alongside this, the children have their home learning grids each half term with a choice of activities. Please bring any home learning in on a Monday to share in class. Thank you for your support.
Here are some of the home learning tasks that the children have completed this half term.
Learning to count to 100 using different objects.
We have been learning how to tell the time in year 1.
We made Marmalade Sandwiches for Paddington Bear and then wrote instructions on how to make them for his friends. We even got to try them. Yummy!
